I am a professionally certified coach and mentor, with broad leadership experience in substantial businesses.
Before developing my coaching practice I enjoyed a successful corporate career, holding a variety of board level positions, including managing director of a leading insurance group. I have a law degree, finacial services qualifications and an MBA.
I trained as a coach with two highly regarded schools, the Coaches Training Institute and Barefoot Coaching. I am a Certified Professional Co-Active Coach, have a Post Graduate Certificate in Business and Personal Coaching from the University of Chester and am member of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council.
My love of coaching comes from a desire to use my life and business experience as a platform to help others; an ability to see the best in, and want the best for, everyone; a sense that I would have benefited enormously from having my own coach during my executive career; the sheer pleasure of working with interesting people; and ...... knowing that I'm good at it!
My coaching is built upon the foundations of a broad life and business experience. I bring warmth and integrity, challenge and accountability, my coaching experience and expertise, and a range of tools and techniques, held lightly, for the benefit of my clients.
When I'm not coaching I like to be with my family, keep fit, get into the hills and travel. In recent years I've trekked in Nepal and Ethiopia and travelled throughout Japan, China and Kenya. I have chaired a regional charity, volunteered in a national one and currently coach professionals in one of Britain's largest charities.
I like to work with individuals or groups; in relationships that are open and supportive, where the truth is spoken and where the time to think, learn and explore are valued.
“Know that your presence creates confidence and a sense of calm well-being in others”
“You step up and see the world from an altitude. You can see all the pieces in a way others can't. Seeing things with clarity and an instinctive approach. It's very apparent from the outside”
“You have a huge heart, a huge understanding of human beings”
“Thank you for this very high level of coaching. It felt like I was wrapped in silk and I have learned so much about my situation and the choices available to me.”
“I so appreciate what you do in bringing awareness to the key issues going on for me; whatever it is, without judgement, just solid presence, yet with a deep insight of the world.”
“You have a deep wisdom and spirituality that the world is sorely missing. It's obvious that your purpose is to help individuals and groups begin to see what's really important”
“You have a strong belief that everyone is amazing no matter what”
“You see the potential in others, and their uniqueness. You are absolutely in touch with yourself and able to work with that to help others to grow”
“You hold everyone in unconditional positive regard, and that's very rare."”

Coaching is a way to facilitate purposeful change, a way of empowering people to find their own answers, and then encouraging and supporting them as they continue to make important changes in their lives.
I partner with my clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to fulfil their potential. I help them to discover, clarify and align their goals, learn more about themselves, working with them to unearth their own solutions and holding them accountable for the changes that they commit to making.
Life can be complicated. We can lose sight of what is really important to us and misplace our energy, motivation and power.
Everyone is different. Some people use coaching to achieve a specific objective, to achieve something, to get from A to B. Many want to become more effective leaders or overcome specific challenges at work. Some want to get past limiting beliefs and find ease. Others want to find their values and their sense of self, create new horizons and embark on a new adventure. Some people don't really know what they want; they just have a sense that it isn't what they have, and want to work with a coach to find out what it might be. All of these are fine.
Personal coaching is a unique way of helping you to:
My purpose is to help you to work out what is important to you and how you might get it, overcoming obstacles and achieving your goals in life.
Business leaders operate within a challenging and fluid environment. An executive coach works with already talented leaders to enhance their performance, in much the same way as a sports coach works with an athlete.
Executive coaching is one of the best investments that you will ever make. It gives you the chance to pause, clear your head, get things off your chest, find the time and space to think and speak the truth in a confidential, supportive and non-judgemental relationship. It is a powerful development experience that will generate clear benefits.
I coach executives around a range of business, life and leadership issues, bringing over 20 years of coaching (and mentoring) experience as a senior executive within the financial services industry, and as a coach outside it.
I offer my unique mix of warmth, energy and challenge, based upon the foundations of a broad set of personal and business experiences. I bring my coaching skills and a toolkit of business and psychological approaches to a bespoke relationship in order to help leaders to improve their performance at work and enable them to become as effective and successful as possible in the context of their professional lives.
I will work with you in a confidential relationship; listening, reflecting and contributing, so that you can gain a greater self-awareness, connect fully with your values and strengths, understand what is most important to you in your career and life, take congruent action and move towards your goals.
Mentoring is more directive than coaching; it's more about providing advice, direction or alternatives and sharing thinking, information or relevant experience that might be useful. A mentor is someone who has something specific to offer, often from their own direct experience, whereas a coach is curious about drawing out a client's own vision, potential and change capability.
On paper, coaching and mentoring are very different. And in practice they are easily distinguishable. However, both can be valuable within the same relationship. I am often hired because a client values my business experience, seeking a coach with executive credibility, one who knows what it is like to lead in business, is familiar with the issues and can speak the same language.
Having run large businesses I understand what it is to be a leader, the challenges that leaders face, the pressures to constantly evolve and drive the business forward, and, perhaps most importantly, what it feels like to be in the middle of it all.
During my executive career I held p.l.c. board level responsibility for operations, sales & marketing, the specification and implementation of major IT systems, business process re-engineering, human resources, large contract negotiations, product development and managing relationships with large UK financial institutions.
As Managing Director of a large financial services group I created and executed strategies and business plans that delivered record profits and market leading returns. I managed relationships with shareholders, worked with investment banks on large corpora te transactions, reported to City institutions and held the Financial Services Authority's "Chief Executive" controlled function.
I have experience of working with investors, investment banks, private equity firms, lawyers, accountants, regulators, trade associations, technology providers, leadership development consultancies, European financial institutions and the media.
I have a law degree, financial services qualifications and an MBA.
I trained as a coach with two highly regarded schools, the Coaches Training Institute and Barefoot Coaching.
I am a Certified Professional Co-Active Coach, have a Post Graduate Certificate in Business and Personal Coaching from the University if Chester and a member of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council.
I've found that the coaching world loves powerful quotations.
Whilst no substitute for commitment, action and change, wise words can often provide a much needed signpost, helping to point the way.
Here are a few I'm happy to live my life by...
"To be what we are, and to become what we are capable of becoming, is the only end in life."
"For the first time in human existence, we have a choice to shape our work to suit the way we live instead of our lives to fit our work... we would be mad to miss the chance."
"You were born with potential.
You were born with goodness & trust.
You were born with ideals and dreams.
You were born with greatness.
You were born with wings.
You are not meant for crawling, so don't
You have wings.
Learn to use them and fly."
"He who knows contentment is rich"
